How disciplined, product-led marketing built Europe’s award-winning WealthTech identity without disrupting a single client’s morning routine.

When the judges at the WealthBriefing Innovation in Marketing Awards wrote up why Etops won Marketing Campaign (Europe), one phrase in their citation stuck with me: “clear product-led messaging”. It is the phrase I would have chosen myself, because it describes the one decision the whole campaign rests on.

In B2B WealthTech, branding often gets treated as decoration. A loud splash, a synchronised launch day, new colours on every login screen. We took the opposite view. Product comes first. A brand earns attention only if it makes the tools people actually use easier to find, evaluate and trust. So we built the Etops brand as a wrapper for the products our clients open every morning, and we launched it in the order that served them.

Saying no to the big switch

The conventional playbook for a rebrand is the big bang: pick a date, flip every screen, portal and invoice at once, send the press release. We turned that down, and it was not an easy call to defend at the time.

The reason is our clients. A portfolio manager who has logged into the same system every morning for ten years does not need a visual overhaul on a Monday. Wealth managers, portfolio managers and advisors work in environments where a surprise costs time they do not have. So we separated the company identity from the daily interface. First the wrapper: website, messaging, the way we talk about what we do. Then familiarity: clients met the Etops name at events, in newsletters and in conversations with their account manager, long before it touched their workflows. Interface changes come last, when a product completes its move onto etopsOne, our end-to-end platform.

There was an engineering argument too. Every product is on a roadmap toward etopsOne. Rebranding the interfaces before that work is done would have meant paying for it twice.

The proof arrived with the acquisitions that came after the launch. When FinanzPortal 24 joined the group and became etops FinanzPortal, the German advisor market already knew who Etops was and what we stood for. Nobody had to ask. That is what a brand is built to do.

What the judges saw

This is the second WealthBriefing panel this year to reach the same view. In February the campaign won International Marketing Campaign & Team at the Swiss Awards in Geneva. The European jury put it this way:

“Delivering an exceptional marketing campaign, successfully unifying multiple WealthTech brands into a single, compelling market identity. Through strategic, pan-European execution and clear product-led messaging, the campaign strengthened brand visibility, increased client engagement, and established Etops as a leading integrated WealthTech ecosystem.”

A team that grew with the roadmap

On 17 March 2025 the new identity went live in two languages, on one digital platform, with one set of messages covering portfolio management, wealth aggregation, reporting, order routing and advisory workflows. The marketing team that day was two people: Caroline, our designer in Freiburg, and me in Cham, still a product marketer at the time. Product, sales and IT colleagues carried the change in their own areas. Nothing stopped for it.

We did not build a large marketing department up front and then look for work. The team grew as the products did. Olivia came in to own web and search. Eva took content and demand generation for wealth and asset management. Niklas joined ahead of the FinanzPortal launch to lead marketing for the IFA line. Each hire arrived when a product line needed its own owner, which is the same logic as the campaign: the structure follows what we sell, so marketing stays close to what we build.

What comes next

Awards are a useful check that the logic reads from the outside. The test that matters is the one our clients run every morning: does the platform make their work faster and clearer? Every product already carries the Etops name. Many already have the Etops look and feel; the others take it on as they complete their move onto etopsOne, predictably and without surprises. Before your product changes, you will hear from us.

Two things follow from that. The first is etopsOne itself: the end-to-end platform on which all products are fully consolidated, one login and one experience across portfolio management, wealth aggregation, reporting, order routing and advisory workflows. The second is language. The brand launched in German and English. Italian and Spanish come next, because the clients and markets we serve do not stop at the German-speaking border, and neither does the name.

Thank you to WealthBriefing and the judges, to Pius Stucki and the leadership team for backing a slower, harder sequence over a louder one, and to the clients and partners who have made the move with us, step by step.
